Robert Moore, passed away December 14, 2013 at The Gardens in Santa Monica, CA at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 2007. Bob and Helen met at a dance in Pittsburgh, PA, were married in 1954 and she remained the love of his life until her death following a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease. During Helen’s illness, Bob was a loving hands-on caregiver for the last several years of her life making many sacrifices to concentrate solely on her care.
Bob attended the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina and graduated from the University of Pittsburg. He excelled academically and in sports playing football runningback for both schools Bob served in the US Army in WW II seeing action in North Africa and the European theatre. After honorable discharge Bob returned to his love for football and played runningback for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League for five years.
Bob and Helen relocated to California from Pittsburgh when Bob accepted a position as a structural engineer, playing a large roll in the design and construction of many buildings in and around the Los Angeles area. Helen and Bob remained in the Santa Monica area after his retirement in the late 1980s.
After Helen’s death in 2007, Bob was able to fulfill his dreams of traveling and took several trips and cruises abroad.
Bob and Helen never had children. He is survived by his only living relative, Ronald C. Nelson of Palm Desert, CA.
Services will be held December 19, 2013 at Westwood Memorial Cemetery in Los Angeles where Bob will be laid to rest with his wife and mother.
