She was a beloved partner, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her partner Harry Evans, her daughters Sarah Bott and Stephanie McLemore, her sons-in-law Joseph Fahey and Nate McLemore, her brother Tom Rice, her grandsons Owen Fahey, Declan Fahey, Tyler McLemore, and Finnegan McLemore, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives, and friends.
She was born Nancy Francisco Rice on November 6, 1942 to Raymond Fredrick Rice and Miriam Francisco Rice in Columbus, Ohio. She attended Columbus School for Girls for elementary and secondary school. In 1964 she graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in Political Science. On August 1, 1964, she married Jerry Frederick Bott. After living in Boston for two years, they moved to sunny Los Angeles in 1966, which she considered “paradise”.
Nancy’s life had many wonderful chapters. Throughout them all, she worked tirelessly to take care of those around her and make the world a better place. As a young woman she was a full-time mom, active in organizations such as the Junior League, the Wellesley College Alumni Association, Coro, and the California Community Foundation. When her daughters were older, she returned to school and completed an MBA at UCLA School of Business. She joined the accounting firm, Katz Cassidy, where she worked for more than 25 years and became a partner.
After her husband Jerry died, she met her partner Harry Evans in 1991 through the Los Angeles international folk-dance community. They enjoyed more than a quarter century of adventures together. They joined the PLATO society in 2010, where Nancy served as President in 2017-18. Her daughters like to say that Nancy and Harry ‘crushed’ retirement. Those years were filled with dancing, tennis, studying for PLATO seminars, travelling the world, and spending time with family and friends.
In the last few years of her life, Nancy had Myelodysplastic Syndrome and Alzheimer’s. Her family is grateful that they were able to care for her at home, as she wished.
A memorial service will be held at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 13th at 10:00 am. If anyone would like to make a donation in her name (which the family prefers in lieu of flowers), please consider donating to organizations important to Nancy, such as Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Partners in Health.
She will be missed forever.
