The Coming of the Lord
13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters,[a] about those who have died,[b] so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died.[c] 15 For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those who have died.[d] 16 For the Lord himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call and with the sound of God’s trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
Gilberto Velazquez was called home on February 7, 2017 peacefully in his sleep. He was 55 years old, born in Guadalajara, Mexico on March 15, 1961. A resident of Los Angeles all his life with the exception of a few years, where he lived in Austin, Texas. Gil worked in construction as a drywaller for 39 years. He enjoyed listening to the rain, reading self taught books, watching old western and kung-fu movies. He also enjoyed boxing, working out and was a Green Bay and Lakers fan. But most of all, he enjoyed reading his bible, worshiping the Lord and spending time with his family. He had a very kind heart and quick wit and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
We celebrate his new eternal life, but we will miss his wisdom, smile, good sense, and leadership that carried his family. He was a faithful Christian, he was a Leader who truly led by example. The world is a better place for his role in it. The hundreds of people whose lives were touched by Gil will always honor the memory of him. Gil was a beloved brother and a devoted son, he loved his parents unconditionally.
Gil is survived by his parents, Refugio and Elena; his siblings Patty, Hector and Norma; his nieces and nephews as well as many family members.
The family wishes to thank everyone who has been so supportive to the family in their difficult times. As well as the Kaiser Hospice and Palliative Care Center.
Arrangements under the direction of Funeraria del angel Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles, CA.
