George Leon Reedy, Jr. was the first born son to the union of George Leon Reedy and Jettye Mae Gosey Reedy. He was born on Saturday, September 21, 1946 as the oldest brother to Robert Maurice Reedy and Joyce Marie Whiting.
George Reedy received Christ early and shared his love of the Lord with family, friends, and strangers everywhere he went. He earned his AA in Political Science in 1971 at Los Angeles City College. He then earned his BA in Political Science with an option in International Relations in 1972 at California State University, Los Angeles. He always kept a pulse on the political climate of our nation, and attended the 2000 Democratic National Convention. He had a firm belief in writing letters to get the support he wanted. He would write to businesses and politicians, often receiving the support he was after.
George Reedy served in the army during the Vietnam War, and was there for the Tet Offensive. He worked as Military Police at that time. He married Somjai Ruanthong on September 10, 1968. They had four daughters, Jettye Sone, Somjai Rita, Shawnalee Dounjit, and Yessica Ruth. They divorced in 1995.
As a civilian, he worked as a corrections officer which afforded him the space and ability to speak into the lives of young men. He then worked in asset protection and security which allowed him to write. One of the many projects he had was a memorial he wanted to build in Griffith Park. It was his vision to have a permanent Viet Nam wall to honor those fallen in service. He imagined a break in the wall to allow visitors ease of access through the wall.
He was a member of the American Legion, National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Disabled American Veterans (Chapter CA 5), The Recording Academy, IFP - LA which is now known as the Gotham.
He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, and generally being part of the community. He spent many years securing the room, helping to load and unload cases, and speaking into the lives of those around him.
He spent the last five decades following his heart in Hollywood, California. He loved going to the American Film Market in Santa Monica, each year, supporting others in the industry and absorbing all he could for his own vision. He also went to the Cannes Film Festival in Paris (2003) and the 43rd Grammys (2001).
George Reedy’s home was always in Texas. He often talked about jumping trains and riding horses. He loved his belt buckles, cowboy boots and hats, and leather jackets. He dreamed about a ranch with horses, cows, and a greenhouse.
George Leon Reedy, Jr. passed peacefully in his sleep, in the deep stillness of Sunday morning, April 24, 2022. He joins his eldest daughter, Jettye, and leaves his younger daughters, Somjai, Shawnalee and Yessica to mourn him. His legacy lives on in his grandchildren Quincy, Quentin, Sarah, Landis, Lake, Danielle, Leah, Jonathan, Devin, and Aiden with great grandchildren Shawn, Cairo, Hadessa and Inara.
