Gaby Kaufman Reskin Ross passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 22, 2023. She lived her 97 years to the fullest.
Gaby was born on January 12, 1926 in Los Angeles to her loving parents Jack and Dorothy Kaufman as one of three daughters. Her two sisters, Annie and Sharlett, described Gaby as a natural beauty and a forever social butterfly. She was tagged early on by schoolmates as "Gaby" which became her lifelong nickname and calling card.
Gaby attended Dorsey high school where she was a cheerleader. She also worked part time at JJ Newberry and as a model at Bullocks Wilshire. These experiences along with her innate fashion sense helped forge her impeccable style, which became her lifetime trademark!
Gaby met her first husband, movie star handsome, Norman Reskin, playing volleyball at Santa Monica Beach. She spiked the ball in his direction to get his attention. Her strategy paid off, and in 1950 she and Norman married in Los Angeles. They raised their two sons, Victor and Robert in Cheviot Hills.
Gaby was a meticulous homemaker and also a businesswoman. She formed an interior design company, TREO INTERIORS with her two sisters in law, Lulie and Flossie, which Gaby ran successfully for almost 25 years.
As life has its challenges, Gaby’s first marriage didn’t last. But as luck would have it, Gaby met her second husband the love of her life, Dick Ross on a blind date in 1974. It was "kismet."
On May 10, 1985 Dick and Gaby tied the knot on their boat the L’Escargot in Catalina Harbor. They were inseparable and traveled the world from Africa to Europe including trips on The Concorde and The QE2. They also enjoyed hosting family get togethers in Santa Barbara, Pebble Beach along with skiing adventures in Colorado, Idaho and Utah.
Gaby and Dick made sure that staying together as a family was a lifelong bond and not only for special occasions. Gaby maintained this tradition until the very end.
After Dick passed, Gaby was a proud volunteer at UCLA Reagan Hospital. She walked the miles of hospital hallways delivering waters, magazines, great fashion and good cheer to family members waiting to see loved ones.
Gaby Reskin Ross . . . a one of a kind to all who knew and loved her. She will be missed and never forgotten.
She is survived by her sons Victor and Bob Reskin, Daughter in law Nancy, Robyn Watson (Bill), Crosby Ross (Richard Cassese), Grandchildren Nicholas Reskin, Matthew Reskin, Rachael Steidl (Jamie), Joshua Ross (Carrie), Daniel Ross (Jill), Casey Watson. Nephew David Ross (Shabnam), niece Betsy Ross and 10 beloved great grand children
The memorial service will be at Pierce Brothers Mortuary in Westwood.
