Elena S. Munoz was born October 9, 1931 in Los Angeles Calif. as the only child of Refugio and Helen Salazar. She attended Roosevelt High School and at the age of 16 years old she met and later married Benito Ybarra of Montebello, Calif. Together they had 5 children, Richard, Benjamin, Albert, Mark and Cynthia. At 23 years old, Elena found herself widowed. The passing of Benito left her a single mother of 5 children. In an effort to provide for her family she attended Marinello Beauty School with aspirations of becoming a Beautician. Upon graduating beauty school, Elena met a man who would hold her heart for years to come, Felipe Adrian Munoz. The two dated for 4 years before they decided to go their separate ways. Her first job after completing beauty school was at Frank & Joseph’s Beauty Salon in Hollywood, Calif. This led her through her beautician career until she opened up her own salon 9 years later, Elena’s Beauty Bar. In 1967 Adrian and Elena reconnected. Adrian, who was now widowed with 3 children Edward, Adrian and Ida, later married Elena in 1968. The 2 families joined together with Elena’s 5 children and through that time Elena saw Adrian through law school. The home they later built upon together held many memories, including the loss of Adrian, the man who held Elena’s heart for several years. Felipe Adrian Munoz passed in 2009.
Their home welcomed 22 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Elena passed July 14, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Elena is survived by her 6 children and grandchildren. Elena, known to her family as “Lita” is remembered by many for her feisty attitude, good cooking and porcelain high heel shoe collection and her fashionista sense of style.
