It is with heavy hearts that the family of Berton Ross Bradley announces his passing on March 25, 2017. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Marguerite and Gordon Bradley, he was raised in Indiana but lived most of his life in Santa Monica, CA. At the age of 19, he served in the US Navy as a member of the “Seabees” Naval Construction Battalion, where he worked on a wide array of projects for the military. He continued on to Purdue University where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. Soon after, he relocated to California where he joined the California Division of Highways in Northern California and then the Ventura County of Public Works. He joined Albert C Martin and Associates in 1962 and became Chief Civil Engineer and an associate of that firm in 1963. Throughout his career, Bert was an active member of ASCE and was awarded Young Engineer of the Year in 1965 and served as President in 1972. He also served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. After more than 20 years at AC Martin, he moved to the firm of Psomas and Associates in 1983. He completed his career at Crosby Mead Benton and Associates and ultimately retired in 2006. He was awarded membership to the prestigious land planning organization, Lambda Alpha International in 1982. Bert was a proud Santa Monica resident and an active member of the community. He served as Planning Commissioner for the City of Santa Monica from 1992-1996. Bert was a devout Catholic and an active member of Saint Monica’s congregation, where served on the administrative committee of the church. He was an active participant of the Boy Scouts of America and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 1 from 1978-1980. An avid sailor, he was a member of the Fairwind Yacht Club and also served as Commodore from 1988-1992. Bert is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Felicia Bradley, his children George (Cathy), Gordon, Peter (Doris), Beth (Jeff), and grandchildren Kaitlyn, Kyle, Jacob, Andrew, Ryan, Colin, and Lauren.
