Services for William “Martin” Cobb, 70, will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Oakland Heights Baptist Church, with the Reverends Kevin Bright and Scott Brown officiating. Martin passed away at his home on Friday, October 7, 2011, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Martin was born October 18, 1940 in Freeport, Texas. He served as a medic in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960. He moved to Longview with his family in 1968. He owned and operated Gregg Finance Company from 1970 to 2005, when he retired and sold the business.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joan Cobb, his children, Marlynn Latham and husband Larry, Kerrie Mathews and husband Damon, Martin Cobb and wife Jeanette, all of Longview, along with seven grandchildren, a sister, May Bond and husband James of Clear Lake, Texas.
Martin met his wife, Joan in Freeport, Texas, where they married. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March. They have been members of Oakland Heights Baptist Church since 1978. Martin will be forever remembered for his zest for life and quick wit.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lucille Cobb, step-mother, Keturah Cobb, and brother, Marvin Cobb.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2011 at Lakeview Funeral Home in Longview. Contributions may be made to the College Scholarship Fund at Oakland Heights Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be members of Martin’s Sunday School Class:
Jim Chapel, Gene Robertson, Tommy Woolley, Larry Risinger, Bob Holcomb, Jerry Hays, Jerry Haynie, James Hampton, Bob Beasley.
