Wayne Martin Gentsch went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, February 1, 2016 at the age of 82. Wayne was born November 19, 1933 to Homer Edward and Lorene Martin Gentsch in Gilmer, Texas. A life long resident of East Texas, Wayne loved the piney woods. Wayne was a graduate of Gladewater High School in 1951 and University of Houston College of Pharmacy 1955. Wayne married Dolores Ann Holsapple on September 1, 1956 at the First Baptist Church in Gladewater. They had over 59 wonderful years together. Wayne was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner, a Paul Harris Fellow with the Rotary Club of Greggton, and past president of the East Texas Fly Fishers Club and a Life Member of the NRA. Wayne was a member of the Gideons International. Wayne was a member of the prestigious Mading Society of the University of Houston College Of Pharmacy and endowed a scholarship there. He was a member of Phi Delta Chi fraternity. Wayne was named Outstanding Rotarian in Carthage in 1963 for his efforts in setting up Polio inoculation in Panola County. He was a member of the Confederate Air Force. Wayne was an Amateur Radio operator with an Extra Class and Examiner for the AARL. Wayne and Dolores were active at Mobberly Baptist Church of Longview. Wayne was preceded in death by his mother and father and his brother, Donald. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; son Larry and his wife Janice and granddaughters Anna and Erica and her husband Alex; son Michael and his wife Karen and granddaughters Kelly and Carmen; and son Gregory and his wife Lorree; also brother Dwayne along with a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Lakeview Funeral Home, with visitation from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. before the service. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens at 5000 West Harrison Road in Longview. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer’s Association, United Ostomy Associations of America, Wounded Warriors Project, Highway 80 Rescue Mission, and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
