Private family services were held for Roy Edward Harris, Jr. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home. Mr. Harris was born June 22, 1926 in Dallas to Roy Edward Harris, Sr. and Maude Morris Harris. After graduating from high school, he served his country during WWII, and returned home to go to college and earn his accounting degree. Throughout his life, he worked as an accountant and an auditor. Numbers were his life. He was a believer that any problem could be solved with an equation. He retired from Gregg County were he had worked for a number of years as the county auditor. He passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017.
He is survived by his sons: Phil Harris and his wife Gail of Longview, Greg Harris and his wife Kathy of Humble, Bret Harris and his wife Judy of Longview, and Kyle Harris and his wife Gayla of Brumley, TX; grandchildren: Robin Hataway, Amy Lewis, Kimberly deJong, Wendi Barker, Holli Ellison, Blake Harris, Jennifer Strong, Chase Harris, Josh Harris, and Tyler Harris; great grandchildren: Hayden Hataway, Trevor Hataway, Brennan Lewis, Chance Lewis, Stella deJong, David Perkins, Reid Perkins, Carter Russel, Gavin Barker, Sadie Strong, Timothy Harris, Josiah Harris, and Lewis Harris. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Charlene Harris; brother: Gene Allen Harris: and sisters: Juanita Morris and Francis McDonald.
The family requests that memorials be made to Crossroads Cemetery in Brumley, TX in care of the Gilmer National Bank.
