Michael F. Hackney was born into this world on April 19, 1942, and departed from this world on November 4, 2023. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Leslie S. Hackney and Mary E. Ferris. Life in the Navy led Mike to many a city, but home was found in the heart of his wife, Nancy, and their children. Together they built a life in Hallsville, Texas where they spent most of their 42 years together splashing through life, exploring the world with epic road trips, and being a dedicated provider for the family.
Mike was a businessman and a fisherman. His heart for people was the only thing bigger than the untold fish stories. For over 50 years, Mike spent his time in the Big Brother Big Sister program. He not only embraced the relationship with Bill Hitchcock, his little brother, but also embraced the entire family, and the entire family embraced him back. The Hitchcock family was not only dearly loved by Mike but remains so by all of the Hackney family. He is remembered for being a loyal friend, and a kind and supportive encouragement to the friends of his children and grandchildren, those near and far, who he loved to brag about.
Those who continue to carry his legacy within their hearts are his sisters, Leslee Price and Cindy Duesing, and their families. His wife, Nancy Hackney, and their children, Annielaurie Mozeé (JP), Shane Hackney, and Cheylo Steele (Jason). Also included are beloved grandchildren: Dakota, Brooklyn, Makailyn, Monroe, Garrison, Madalyn, Maddoch, Irene, Chase, Addison, Mathus, Myka, Laura, Meribel, and nieces and nephews.
We greatly appreciate everyone’s condolences , thoughts, and prayers.
A memorial service will be held this Saturday, November 11, 2:00pm at Lakeview Funeral Home (5000 W Harrison Rd, Longview, TX 75604).
