Services for Marye Kathryn Elkins will be held Friday, July 15, 2022, 2:00 pm at Lakeview Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Cook Officiating. A time of visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Elkins, known fondly as Nanny and who always asked anyone who walked by her, “Where’s my kiss?” reached up and took the hand of our creator to enter everlasting life the early morning of July 6, 2022 at 86 years of age.
Born on November 11, 1935 in Denison, Texas, Kathryn was the third of eight children born to Laura Elizabeth Hardy and Hansel Fritts. Her early years were spent in California until age 16 when she moved back to Denison, Texas to care for her grandparents and attend high school. When walking to school one morning she passed the home of Robert Harold Elkins who offered her a ride on his motorcycle and their love took off like the wind in her hair and was married on June 7, 1953, celebrating 69 years together.
After several moves while Robert was in the National Guard, they happily settled in Longview in 1961 to raise 4 children while actively attending Oakland Heights Baptist Church, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, and school activities. Kathryn needed to be busy, she loved relaxing in her yard and helping raise grandchildren to appreciate God’s beauty in helping things grow. She would purchase and rescue discounted plants from being thrown out and bring them home to nurture them to health.
Kathryn attended college as her children grew and achieved her Masters in Accounting and passed her CPA exam on the first try. During her working years she enjoyed playing softball for many years going to out of town tournaments with Robert in tow filming the games and cheering her on.
Kathryn had many accomplishments she was proud to be a part of through the years, but her greatest love was for the Lord, whom she credits for her husband Robert and their lifetime together.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Robert; son, Robert Glenn Elkins (Marsha, Katrina, Pam, Matthew, Tiffany); daughter, Glenda Kay Elkins Reese (Dustin, Shelly, Nobellee); daughter, Laura Elkins Stracener (Kelly, Tracy, Kaley); son, John Harold Elkins (Ashley, Johnathon); favorite son in law, Charlie Stracener; sisters, Mabel Virginia, Ella Beth, and Sarah Louise; brother, George; and all her great grandchildren (you know who you are) that she adores and will be watching closely.
