Mary Lou (Crawford) Gibbs of Hideaway passed peacefully on December 27. Mary Lou was born January 31, 1929 in Caddo, Texas and was raised in Lindale, Texas. She was the daughter of Bridges Edgar (B.E.) and Esther Hitt Crawford.
Upon high school graduation, she set out to make a place for herself in the world by continuing her education in business skills in Tyler. She met her best friend’s cousin, Donald G. Gibbs, and they were married on March 5, 1955. They were married 67 years having spent their entire marriage in East Texas, mainly Longview, Kilgore, and Hideaway.
Mary Lou was an excellent businesswoman working for several oilmen through the years. Her talents as a seamstress led her to owning Fabrics by Mary Lou in Kilgore in the 1980s. She and Don owned and operated businesses for many years before retiring to Hideaway in 1995. They were also active members of First Methodist Church in Longview, St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Kilgore and Lindale Methodist Church and enjoyed serving the senior communities in each church.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Donald Gaylon of Hideaway, Texas; their son, Donald Douglas and his wife Donna of Princeton New Jersey, and a daughter-in-law, Jacque Gibbs of Liberty City, Texas. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Kristyn Gibbs Dujardin and her husband Mark of Denver, CO; Jeffrey Gibbs and his wife Stacey of Denver, CO; Taylor Gibbs of St. Louis, MO; Amantha Gibbs Greenberg and her husband Jason of Kilgore, TX; Bridges Gibbs of Tyler, TX; Brad Beall of Longview, TX and four great-grandchildren Mason Greenberg, Skylar Greenberg, Maddox Greenberg and Sevana Greenberg, all of Kilgore, Texas.
Mary Lou’s younger siblings and spouses survive her – Jim and Linda Crawford of Lindale, TX, Joe and Yvonne Crawford of Atlanta, GA and Ann Crawford of Phoenix, AZ.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her son, Todd Jeffrey Gibbs of Liberty City, TX, her parents and brother Bill Crawford of Lindale, TX.
