Linda Carol Jackson, from Longview TX, passed away peacefully Friday, March 14, 2025. She was 82 years old. She was born on September 9, 1942. Linda was a high school graduate from White Oak HS in 1961. She attended college at North Texas State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in teaching. She continued her education to receive her master’s degree from Michigan University in 1965. She learned about DODDS, the Department of Defense overseas Dependent Schools, at Kelly Air Force base in San Antonio, TX which gave her the opportunity to teach and travel through the military as a civilian. She was stationed in Okinawa for 11 years, then transferred to the Philippines for 14 years and then returned to Okinawa, Japan for 11 more years. She taught the children of American military overseas for 36 years total. Besides teaching, Linda loved to travel. She had the opportunity to take her mother on many adventures traveling overseas which included China, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea, Italy, specifically the leaning Tower of Pisa, Greece, Germany, Spain and India, specifically the Taj Mahal. Her home reflected her love of the Orient. After retirement, she returned to Longview, TX and worked for Sylvan Learning Center. Linda was the youngest of 3. Her sister Mary Ann and brother Earl “Bud” Jackson shared adventures with her traveling to visit grandparents in Florida and Georgia and they loved to go camping and fishing. One of Linda’s earliest memories was of her favorite toy rocking horse, and she loved an Alexander doll that her mother made for her. Linda loved to be with her family and friends. One of her hobbies was researching her family’s genealogy. Her favorite food was teriyaki chicken. Her favorite holiday was Christmas; she loved to decorate the Christmas tree. And she loved her cats – Bebe and Buddy, who traveled with her to the states from overseas, Inky, Prince, Precious and Rusty just to name a few. Linda loved her independence. She made friends easily and she loved to live life and be involved. Even after she moved to Heartis Senior Living, she became the president of Sparks Travel group helping to plan outings and adventures for the Seniors living there. The family would like to give special thanks to the senior living staff at Heartis who became like family to Linda. She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl C. Jackson, Sr. and Mary F. Jackson, who was truly her best friend. Her sister Mary Ann Delmer and brother “Bud” Earl C. Jackson, Jr. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Kay Jackson, her nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to local animal shelters, PETA animal rescue organization or Sylvan Learning Center.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lakeview Funeral Home, 5000 West Harrison Road, Longview, TX 75604.
