Lester Fred Oestreich, 83, of Longview, TX passed away on December 3, 2012 at a local nursing home. Mr. Oestreich was born on July 20, 1929 in Centralia, Illinois to Charles and Clara Guetzler Oestreich. As a youngster, he attended school at Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Centralia High School. Mr. Oestreich went into the Army during the Korean Conflict to serve his country. After serving his time, he came back to the states and went to work in the oilfield where he retired in 1986 after over 30 years of service. He married Dean Davis on June 23, 1956 in Longview, TX. After retiring, he had a workshop built in the back yard that any man would envy. There he was able to hone his woodworking abilities and be able to build handmade treasures that he would give away and sometimes even go to different shows and sell from time to time. He even became skilled at being able to paint them. Mr. Oestreich was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Longview, TX. He was an avid golfer and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years: Dean Oestreich of Longview; Son: Ricky Oestreich of Gilmer; Daughter: Jacqueline Morris and her husband Larry of White Oak; three grandsons: Derek, Russell, and Matthew; Brother: Charles Oestreich, Jr. and his wife Rosemary of Zenia, Il; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Sisters: Rose Lewis, Esther Foster, Dorothy Schrecker, Evelyn Schymick; Brother: Rudolph Oestreich; and daughter: Nancy Gayle Oestreich.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Chapel of Lakeview Funeral Home, Longview, Texas with the Rev. Dennis J. Bragdon officiating. A time of visitation will follow the services at the funeral home.
