Julia Barbee Taylor passed away on January 30, 2014 at her residence in Longview. She was born on January 31, 1919 in Marshall, TX to Hallett Josephine and Elmo Barbee. Her family spent a little time in Marshall before moving to Mineola where her parents purchased a dairy farm where she learned about hard work. In 1940, she married Murell Kenton Taylor. They started their life together by moving to California, which she loved. After WWII, they returned to Texas and settled in Longview and started raising their family. They became involved in Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls and other civic organizations. She was proud of her children and worked with them to graduate from Longview High School and the colleges of their choosing. Her husband, Murell passed away on November 10, 1995. After his passing, she started travelling, with different tour groups all over the US and Canada, where she would take one of her children or their spouse with her sharing memories and making good friends. In her later years, she moved into Buckner Place and throughout the years many of her friends joined her there and they had quite a time playing games and enjoying each other’s company.
Mrs. Taylor is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Murell Kenton Taylor; her parents; her brother-Charles Everett Barbee; grandmother-Mrs. Gypsy Anderson Haynes. She is survived by her three children: Paul Jeffery Taylor and his wife Anne of Longview, Julianne Gaston and her husband William (Bill) of Woodbridge, VA, as well as Charles Kenton Taylor and his wife Debra Darlene of Gilmer; five grandchildren: Jodi Saylors, Jonathan Gaston, Elizabeth Gaston, Jonathan Taylor and June Dawn Taylor; niece: Blythe Barbee Pritchett and her husband Keith of Abilene; nephew: Charles Everett (Bo) Barbee as well as many great grandchildren; one great great on the way and numerous cousins scattered all over the US.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, 5000 West Harrison Road, Longview, TX with Chaplain Rick Webb officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014 also at the Lakeview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.
