John Paul Dowell Sr.

He was the son of Lloyd Curtis Dowell and Nettie Marie Weldon Dowell of Carroll, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbarah Barrett Dowell and his parents, Nettie Marie Weldon Dowell and Lloyd Curtis Dowell. He is survived by his children John Paul Dowell Jr. and wife Fran and daughter Dana Pletcher and husband Thomas Jay Pletcher; grandchildren, Lacy Pletcher, Thomas Jay Pletcher Jr and wife Aynsley Pletcher; great grandsons, Austin and Alex Pletcher; brother Chapple Curtis Dowell. Starting his career in education after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, John Paul taught math and science in Big Sandy, Sabine, Tyler, and Gladewater public schools until he retired in his early 50's. He loved to hunt, fish, camp out, play dominos and garden.

He is well known for giving out "Gold Stars". We will never ever be able to thank his private caregivers enough; Tina, Shawna, Krystal, Angela, Patricia, Chloe, and Kevin with Elite Private Care.

A Celebration of John Paul's Life will be 2 pm Monday, April 7, 2025 at Lakeview Funeral Home with visitation from 1-2 pm prior to the service. Interment will follow at Dover Cemetery in Lindale.
