Jimmy Whisenhunt was born in Gilmer, Texas on October 4, 1939 to George Whisenhunt and his wife Vera (Burcalow) Whisenhunt. He was raised in Honey Creek Community and attended Harmony School. After completing school, Jimmy went to Dallas, Texas and worked at several places. He returned to East Texas and was employed by The State of Texas Highway Department where he retired 14 years later due to his health.
Jimmy died peacefully in Whispering Pines Convalescent Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Joe Whisenhunt and one nephew Ronnie Lee.
Jimmy is survived by two sisters Netty Hershberger in Longview, TX and Joyce Love in Hawkins, TX. Two brothers Donald Whisenhunt in Hawkins, TX and George Whisenhunt in Pritchett, TX. He is also survived by four nieces Joy, Rebecca, Karen, and Bridgett and four nephews, Shawn, Shane, Shannon, and Lee.
Jimmy loved his church, Greggton Missionary Baptist Church and his Pastor Bro. Roger Bynog. As well as Nancy King, Sue Bailey, Betty Hayes, and the rest of the church’s members who impacted his life.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Kelly and Latrise of Heart to Heart Hospice for their compassion and dedicated care towards Jimmy.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 10:00 am at Greggton Missionary Baptist Church in Longview, TX with visitation one hour prior. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at Eubank Haven of Memories Cemetery in Canton, Texas.
