Hayden Rex Mayfield, 90, of Longview, Texas passed away on July 5, 2013 at his residence. Mr. Mayfield was born on May 20, 1923 in Mt. Enterprise, Texas to Will T. and Artie Bell Mayfield. He served his country during WWII, joining the United States Marines and fighting in the battle of Iwo Jima. When he came back from the war, he found the love of his life, Mary Ann Datel and they were married on February 8, 1947 in Baytown, Texas. He worked as an electrician for Amoco Pipeline Co. until his retirement in 1985. He was a 50 year member of the Pine Tree Masonic Lodge, a Past President of the local OCAW Union and a past coach of the Warriors little league baseball team. He enjoyed any number of reasons to be outside, from watching grandkids ball games, hunting, fishing or gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Mayfield; sons: Roy Mayfield and his wife Linda of Tyler, Billy Mayfield of White Oak, and David Mayfield of Athens; brothers: Bob Mayfield and his wife Gretchen of Plano, Kenneth Mayfield of Bryan; sister: Wanda Opersteny and her husband Eugene of Bryan; four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; and grandchildren: Kyle Mayfield and Mikki Mayfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in the Chapel of Lakeview Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
