Gloria Marceal Clark

.Gloria Marceal Clark, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2016 in Longview, Texas surrounded by the love of her family and friends. After a successful procedure in March to remove a cancerous tumor, Marceal’s strong will to live; unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through the past eight months until her battle resumed in November. After a valiant effort to overcome cancer, Marceal was called home to be with her heavenly Father and join the family and friends who went before her.

Visitation will be from 6 pm till 8 pm on Friday, December 2nd at Calvary Tabernacle in Longview.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, December 3rd at Calvary Tabernacle with Pastor Charles Chargois and Bishop A.D. Spears officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Marceal was born in Shreveport, Louisiana to Travis and Doris Edington Nevels on May 15, 1930. Following the oil boom, the family relocated and traveled across the state of Texas while Travis worked for Magnoila Oil Company as a driller. Upon her father’s retirement, the Nevels family settled in the community of Seven Pines in East Texas where the family operated Nevels Grocery Store and Marceal graduated from East Mountain High School. After graduation in 1947 Marceal attended BMI School of Business where she completed her studies and began working as a teacher of shorthand and typing.

In 1948, Marceal met John Cecil Camp when he signed up to take one of the classes at BMI. After two weeks of dating, they were united in marriage on June 25th in Seven Pines, Texas at the family home. Married for thirty-eight years, Marceal and Cecil raised their three children: Vicki Camp, Steve Camp and Joy Camp Torrez. The family owned and operated Cecil Camp Motor Company for twenty-five years until Cecil passed away in June 1986.

Marceal was blessed to find love a second time in Keith (K.W.) Clark. After a brief courtship, the two were married in October 1991 at Calvary Tabernacle. Marceal was honored to expand her family to include K.W.’s children, Reverend Keith Clark Jr., Patricia Polk, and Robert Clark. The two enjoyed twelve years of marriage until his passing in 2003.

An active woman, Marceal worked for the City of Longview in the auto registration department until retiring in the mid-nineties. After retirement, Marceal and K.W. operated a produce stand in front of their home in Gilmer, Texas and she was a faithful volunteer at the Gregg County Historical Museum for eight years. Marceal was a frequent first place winner of the Pilot Club’s Senior Citizen Essay Contest and served the Lord and community diligently as a member of Calvary Tabernacle.

Throughout her eighty-six years, Marceal touched many with her words and stories of hope and God’s love. A prolific, award-winning writer, Marceal’s writings appeared in a wide variety of Christian journals, national magazines and local newspapers including Apostolic Sentinel, Pentecost Today, Woman’s Touch Magazine, Longview News-Journaland The Gilmer Mirror. In addition, Marceal authored two books, Losing, Leaving and Letting Go and Created Images, to help others in times of struggle and need based on her own life experiences. Every story written by Marceal, regardless the topic, all circle back to one central theme; turn to God, no matter the situation, and let him show us the way to righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Marceal is preceded in death by her parents, Travis and Doris Nevels, her loving husbands Cecil Camp and Keith Clark, Keith’s daughter, Linda Jo Rogers, Marceal’s grandchildren Ashley Camp and Rick Wallace, her faithful dogs, Prissy, Missy, Skippy, Sassie and Sadie, and her grand dog, Chip Camp.

Marceal is remembered with love by her younger brother Travis Lloyd and wife Patricia Zinser Nevels and their children, Travis Nevels III and Angela Nevels Nicholas; daughter Vicki Camp and her children Tracy, Trudy and Timothy Gatewood; son Steve Camp and wife Pamela along with their children Shannon Kane-Reinhardt and husband Jim, Bradley Gary, Aaron Camp and wife Claire and Katie Mathis and husband Bret; daughter Joy Camp Torrez and husband Steven with their children Toni Perry and husband Stephen and Kori Stone and husband Chase. Marceal’s extended family Reverend Keith Clark Jr., Patricia Polk, and Robert Clark; and 17 great grandchildren.

The family of Marceal Clark wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all those who have been a part of her amazing and wonderful journey; in particular, Marceal’s family at Calvary Tabernacle, and her best of friends, Jo Cupit, Glenda Slocum and Norma Jackson. Marceal was blessed to be loved by friends who were not too proud to pray for her, to cry for her, to hope for her and to ask God to be one with her. In the words of Marceal, “I love you and am looking forward to seeing you someday – over there – Look just inside the Eastern Gate. I’ll be there.”
