Edith Louise Cox departed this life to be with her Lord June 10, 2018 at the age of 98 years. She was born January 20, 1920 in Jonesboro, TX to Henry Lesley (Boss) and Johnnie Bessie Anderson, grew up in Levita and graduated from high school in Ireland, both being communities near Gatesville, TX. Following graduation, she married Robert Lee Cox May 20, 1939 in Gatesville and enjoyed 69 ½ years of marriage loving the Lord, each other, and their three children.
Robert and Edith began their marriage in Athens, TX following Robert’s first enlistment and soon moved to Dallas, TX. Edith and their first two children returned to Athens in 1945 when Robert was drafted, later moved to Tyler, TX in 1953 following the birth of their third child, and then to Longview, TX in 1961.
Edith along with her husband were faithful members of Churches of Christ in Athens, Tyler, Longview, and Gilmer. She has been a member of Alpine Church of Christ since 1986 enjoying the fellowship of the Young at Heart Bible Class and ministry at Caring & Sharing in previous years.
Edith was a faithful wife, loving mother, and caring friend. She served her family as a homemaker and worked outside the home to supplement family income and provide the extras materially that all family members enjoyed. She loved to work with her hands sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She partnered with her husband serving God, family, friends, and neighbors.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Boss & Bessie Anderson; sister, Syble Jones; brothers, Mack & James Anderson and daughter, Priscilla Louise Bell.
Edith is survived by her sons, Robert Cox, Jr. & wife, Linda of Lakeside, TX and Rodney Cox & wife, Patti of Longview and brothers, J.B. & Davis Anderson. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Edith’s family is very thankful for the skilled care and loving concern of all staff members of Buckner’s Independent Living & Assisted Living facilities and Traditions Health & Hospice Care. They also appreciate the personal, dedicated care of two sitters, Amanda Wozniak & Betty McKenzie.
Visitation for friends and family will be from 6-8 pm, Friday, June 15 at Lakeview Funeral Home and a private family service will be at Lakeview’s Chapel at 1 pm, Saturday, June 16. A public memorial service will be scheduled in the near future at the Alpine Church of Christ Worship Center.
