Danny Carl Medders, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and hard work that touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on January 5, 1962, in Longview, Texas, Danny was the son of Billy Carl and Cheryl Ann Medders. Though he had siblings—Melody Jean, Cynthia Gale, and Dana Darlene Minor (husband Kim)—Danny was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Harry and Lilly Lee Ada Cook, alongside those he considered his closest family: Debbie Davis, Red Bird Cook, Jena Earp, Linda Hudgins, and Wanda Dempsey.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Carl and Cheryl Ann Medders; his grandparents, Harry and Lilly Lee Ada Cook; his sister, Melody Jean Medders and Jena Earp.
As a young boy, Danny worked at his Grandpa Harry’s gas station in Gladewater, Texas, where he developed a strong work ethic that would carry him throughout his life. He had a love for horses, barrel racing, and rodeos in his younger years, and was always surrounded by animals and adventure.
In 1982, at the age of 20, he married Donna Dempsey Medders. Together, they raised two sons, Josh Medders (married to Lea Medders) and Michael Medders (married to Crystal Medders). He was a proud and loving “Papa” to his grandchildren: Kinley, Paisley, Lyla, Aubrey, Ella, Colton, and Charles.
Danny dedicated over 40 years to the garage door business, where he built lifelong relationships and a reputation for his honesty, kindness, integrity, and reliability. He was the kind of man who would do anything for anyone, always showing up with a willing heart and helpful hands.
He coached youth baseball when his boys were little, loved to hunt, and was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan. Danny was also a Life Member of the Republican National Committee and proudly displayed a signed photo from President Donald Trump.
To the neighborhood kids, Danny wasn’t just a neighbor, he was “Pops.” He opened his heart and home to everyone, creating a sense of community and care that will be deeply missed.
In the last ten years of his life, Danny’s relationship with the Lord grew deeper. He found peace, strength, and purpose in his faith, and his love for God became more evident. There’s comfort in knowing that today, Danny is sitting with his Heavenly Father, reunited with loved ones who’ve gone before him.
Danny Carl Medders will be remembered for his big heart, his strong values, and the love he poured into his family and everyone around him. His legacy will live on in the stories, memories, and lives he touched
