Charles Lewis Smith, lovingly known as Chuck, of Gladewater, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on July 21, 1941, Charles lived a life defined by service, hard work, and unwavering love for his family.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a mechanic, where he discovered a lifelong passion for auto repair. After his military service, Chuck turned that passion into a career by opening Chuck’s Automotive in Longview, Texas. Known for his skill, honesty, and dedication, he built a respected business that served the community for many years.
Chuck is survived by his devoted wife, Brenda Smith; his sisters, Betty Sorenson and Jill Karkosky; his daughter, Shelley Couch; his stepson, James Hicks; his daughter-in-law, Casey Hicks; and his grandchildren, Riley Hicks, Katherine Couch, and Jonathan Couch. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Billy Green Jr.; his stepdaughter Carol Green; and grandsons, Brandon Green and his wife, Sabrina Green, and Josh Green.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Smith; his mother, Pearl Weaver; and his son, Clayton Smith, whose memory remained a constant presence in Chuck’s heart.
Chuck will be fondly remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and the quiet strength he shared with everyone around him. Whether under the hood of a car or gathered with family, he brought warmth and reliability to every moment.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday April 10, 2025 at Lakeview Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior.
