Bobbie Myers, age 84, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024 at her home surrounded by family in Longview Texas. She was born the daughter of Tressie and Horace Butler in Philadelphia, MS. She had 1 brother – Wayne Butler. She married the love of her life, Melvin “Sonny” Myers on October 30, 1958 and raised 6 children – Kevin, Michael, Melvya, Stacy, Sidney and Gavin. They were married 62 years upon Sonny’s death.
Bobbie had various jobs throughout her life. She worked at a photo shop, at Thompsons Pharmacy as a “soda jerk” and a motor plant all in Philadelphia, MS. She was also a homemaker devoting her love to her kids and husband. Upon her retirement, she was a home case worker for Sabine Valley MHMR in Longview, TX.
Bobbie loved all babies, animals, and birds. Bobbie and Sonny were foster parents for a great many children for 6 years. It didn’t matter if the babies were relatives or strangers, she would always give kisses to the little ones. She would become like a Mama Bear if someone was doing wrong to any of her kids or grandkids. She always said “You better not mess with my kids!”. She was the best mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother we could all hope for. We were all lucky to have been spoiled by her. Bobbie loved animals too. She hand-fed a baby hummingbird until it could fly away as well as raising her current cat, Tater. She got him when he was just a day old and would get up every 2 hours to feed him.
Bobbie was also very gifted with many talents. She was an amazing quilter. She entered 2 of her quilts in a local contest and won 1st place on one and Best of Show on the other. She spent hours and hours making these handsewn quilts and they were all so very beautiful.
Bobbie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a previous member of Greggton First Baptist church, both in Longview, Texas. She was an incredible servant for the Lord. Her faith was never ending. She never doubted that God was in control and would help guide her throughout her life. She put her unwavering faith and trust in him.
She was not only a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a true friend to all. She was always there to lend a helping hand, be there to listen, and provide valuable advice to those in need. Many times, she would bring her awesome homecooked meals to a friend in need as well as taking friends to doctor’s appointments or anywhere else they needed to go. She will be so greatly missed.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her father Horace, her mother Tressie, and her beloved husband Sonny. She is survived by her 6 children Kevin, Michael, Melvya, Stacy, Sidney, and Gavin, her grandkids Courtney, Brittany, Christian, Traven, Tayna, Justin, Morgan, McKenzie, Ryne, Logan and Brody, her great grandkids Cameron, Rory, Nila, Teagan, Sonny, Calli, Mateo, Tinley, Claire and Hally.
