Albert Mellon Berry was born in Geneva, Alabama on February 20, 1933 and he passed from this earth on Sunday, November 13, 2016 surrounded by his family. Albert was the oldest child of Albert "Dewey" and Lillie "Pearl" Curenton Berry. When he was a young boy, the family moved to Panama City, Florida where he attended school and graduated from Bay High in 1950. Upon his graduation, Albert enlisted in the United States Navy and was first stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas. One weekend, a friend invited him to hitch hike home with him for the weekend to Pittsburg, Texas. While in town that weekend, he met a young woman, Ruth Lohry, and they were soon married on December 20, 1952. Albert continued his military service with duties in Hawaii and his favorite, Kodiak Island, Alaska.
After his discharge from the Navy in 1955, Albert and his young family moved to Longview, Texas where he began a lifelong career with Southwestern Electric Power Company, retiring as a Chemist with Knox Lee Power Plant. He was a longtime member of the Greggton First Baptist Church as well as a 50 plus year member of the Pine Tree Masonic Lodge #1396. Albert was a "very well read" man and after his retirement, he enjoyed working the New York Times Daily Crossword puzzles and he could complete them in record time. You could always find him in front of the television at 11:00 a.m. for daily Jeopardy Games....usually knowing the majority of the answers including FINAL Jeopardy.
Preceding Albert in death were his parents, Dewey and Pearl, his wife of 63 years, Ruth Berry, his oldest son, Richard Earl Berry, sister, Patsy Watts and brother, Gerald Berry. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Karen Berry, daughter-in-law, Susan Berry, grandchildren and spouses, John Berry of Houston, Beau and Abigayle Berry of Longview, Ben and Amy (Berry) Bratteli of San Antonio, and Gary and Annie (Berry) Burnfield of Portland, Texas. His GREAT grandchildren, Brooklyn and Austin Berry, Davis and Emily Bratteli, and Robbie and Emory Burnfield will always have a very special Memories of "Granddaddy Al". In addition, his sister, Theresa Burdeshaw, brother, James Berry, brother-in-law, Don Watts, sister-in-law, Linda Berry, nieces, Barbara Berry, Amy Cason, Sherry Gortney, Gigi Harvey, Charlotte Watts, Nephews, David Berry, Jim Berry, Louis Berry and Tracy Burdeshaw survive him.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Summer Meadows Nursing facility for the excellent and attentive care they gave to Albert for the last 24 months as well as to Heart's Way Hospice for their care the last two months.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Berry's great grandsons--Austin Berry, Davis Bratteli, and Robbie Burnfield.
Visitation will be Friday, November 18, from 6:00 --8:00 p.m. at Lakeview Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday, November 19, at 11:00 a.m. in the Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Moore and Joe Wiley officiating. Interment will follow in the Lakeview Mausoleum.
