William (Bill) Arthur Hendrix, 94, of Erie CO passed away peacefully on Sept 29, 2023. He is preceded in death by his loving bride of 71 years Blondina (Deanie) Hendrix, his parents Mildred and Arthur Hendrix and sister Betty Hendrix Duncan.
Bill was born Sep 5, 1929, in Drumright, Oklahoma. He studied at the University of Oklahoma where he lettered in swimming and diving. Bill was a graduate of Oklahoma State University. After ROTC he received an Army commission. He proudly served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers near the end of the Korean war. He was a Reserve Officer until l970.
Upon returning from Korea, he founded a small finance company. He sold that company to GAC and accepted a management position and transferred to Colorado in 1967.
Bill started his career in the RV Industry as President of Red Dale Coach in 1969. He expanded the manufacturing into Texas and California. In 1971 he started an RV dealership in Denver which he operated for several years. Later he and Deanie were hired by The Dometic Corporation. Bill and Deanie traveled the country in one of several custom motorhomes.
They provided service, consulting, and PR work. Living in a motorhome full time for 27 years. They enjoyed the friendships they developed from 70 years in the RV industry, Bill was very well known and admired. He wrote over 300 technical articles and held several US Patents for RV accessories. In1999 his wheels settled in Erie Colorado for the first time in 27 years they lived in a house. Bill continued to travel and ride his Harley into his mid 80’s.
Bill’s interests included anything technical, buses, aviation, cowboy boots and fine guitars. Bill, was an accomplished craftsman and artist with metal, woodworking, and all mechanical things. He loved his garden and planted tomatoes he refused to eat.
Bill’s passions were for his family, God and Country. He was a true Patriot who loved Oklahoma Sooners Football and his Savior Jesus Christ.
Bill is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brad & Suzi Hendrix of Gunbarrel, and daughter Dana Hendrix and son in law, Eric Hepker of Erie.
The family will hold a private ceremony in the future.
