Wayne was born on September 4, 1951 in Nebraska to Russell and Emma (Bauer) Salmen. He grew up in Boulder with his parents and brother Doug where he graduated from Boulder High School. He went on to attend Western State University in Gunnison where he met Connie O’Conner. They were married on December 27, 1970.
Together they moved to Longmont in 1974 from Boulder. Wayne worked for StorageTek from 1971 to 1985 and then became the Office Manager at Columbine Appliance in Longmont from 1986 until his retirement in 2023.
He was a member of Calvary Church and was very active in Bible Study Fellowship where he became a leader in 1987 and later a childrens leader for many years. Wayne loved football, baseball and golf; watching his boys play and helping coach some of their teams.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Connie; his sons Jason and Thomas Salmen; his daughters Christi Shade and Victoria Salmen; his brother Doug (Rhonda) Salmen; his grandchildren Jackson Shade, Elizabeth Salmen, Jevin Shade, T.J. Salmen, Erik Salmen, J.D. Shade, Matthew Salmen, Neil Salmen, Samara Salmen and Sky Salmen; and Colt, Raiden and Aaliyah; his extended family Richard and Michael Kriegbaum and Tom O’Conner and Roberto Espinoza; his nieces Kim Johnson and family and Elizabeth Spano and family; his nephews Jeff Salmen and family and David Kriegbaum and family; and his dear family friends Laurie Foust, Amy Morris and Kathy Foust.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday April 21, 2024 at Calvary Church in Longmont. Memorial contributions can be made to the Longmont Calvary Church or Bible Study Fellowship.
