Wayne was born in Elsie, NE to Lawrence and Eva Cox where he grew up attending school in Madrid before graduating from Elsie in 1954. He enlisted in the National Guard and then joined the Army Reserves in 1955.
On April 8, 1956, he married Bonnie Boss in Ogallala, NE. Together they moved to Boulder in 1960 where Wayne began his business Wayne Cox Excavating. He did this for 35 plus years before retiring and moving to Platteville in 1998. In retirement he enjoyed rodeoing and farming his 80 acres, where he farmed until his passing.
Wayne was very involved in all aspects of Rodeo life and participated in the The Senior Pro Rodeo, Little Britches Rodeo, Boulder Pow Wow and High School Rodeos where he held leadership positions and enjoyed mentoring kids. He also belonged to the American Legion in Boulder and the Moose Lodge. Wayne enjoyed roping, farming and doing things the hard way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings Ken Cox and Edna Ruth Lungrin.
Wayne is survived by his wife Bonnie; his children Diane (Dean) Keener, Vicki Becker, Terry (Rolly) Speckles, Doug (Brenda) Cox and Lisa Johnson; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings Kathleen Schnieder and Wanda Wesphal; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30am Saturday March 29, 2025 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions can be made to the Little Britches Rodeo. https://www.nlbra.com/
