Susan was born in January of 1941 in Denver, CO to Lester Le Lande and Martha Sanders Le Lande. She had one brother, Hank, who preceded her in death. Susan’s ancestors had settled in Colorado when it was a territory. She was a 4th generation native Coloradoan.
Susan married Francis (Skip) McCarley in 1959 and they had a long, sweet and adventurous marriage of 46 years before Skip passed away. Skip and Sue had 4 children, Kathy, Keven, Vicky and Shawn. In 1975 Skip and Sue moved their family from suburban life to a new adventure on a small farm just SW of Berthoud, CO. It wasn’t long before life revolved around baby calves, ducks, horses and all manner of small farm life.
Sue worked in Loveland at Bill Reed Jr. High school as an administrative secretary. Later she would work as a secretary for a naturopath MD in Boulder. Then she and Skip ran their own health and wellness business. Her last job was at Flower Bin in Longmont where she loved helping people with plants and gardening.
Sue has always had a deep faith in God, but in 2019 she made a new commitment to her faith in Jesus. Her faith gave her an anchor and a peace that was beyond understanding during the last few months of her life. She loved to sing hymns and before her passing she would often join in with any song. We have fond memories of her younger years when she would call the family together around the piano to sing as she played folk, pop, church and all manner of songs.
Sue is survived by 3 of her children, Kathy, Keven, and Vicky, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Sue lived a life to serve others with tenacity, accountability, compassion, and most importantly love. She was fiercely determined to accomplish anything before her, regardless of the difficulties involved. She and Skip left a legacy of loving others and of genuine hospitality and generosity. Her children give God the praise for this heritage. She will be missed by all. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday October 29, 2022 @1pm, at White Field Community Church, 2950 Colorful Ave Ste 100, Longmont, CO 80504, with a reception to follow.
