Born August 19, 1947 in Webster City, IA, he was the son of the late June A. and Edward C. Erickson. After his father died, he was accepted in to the Runnion family when is mother married Dale F. Runnion.
Steve graduated from Webster City High School and went on to serve 7 years in the U.S. Navy submarine fleet on the USS Pulaski during the Vietnam War. He later worked at Woodward Governor in Fort Collins and retired in 2015 after 20 years from Xcel Energy in Golden, CO as a load control technician. Steve loved the outdoors and especially loved camping and fishing at Long Draw reservoir and Grand Lake west of Fort Collins. He hunted, reloaded his own ammunition, was a lifetime member of H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group) and proudly served on the American Legion’s Honor Guard and as Vice Chair when his health allowed.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Sue Erickson of Longmont, his daughters Robyn Erickson of Phoenix, AZ, Leah Erickson and Casey Erickson of Longmont, CO, granddaughters Cassey Jensen and Corynne Jensen of Phoenix, AZ, sister Karen Erickson of Fort Collins, CO, step-sisters Joy (Hilary) Pruitt and Lee (Tony) Outhouse, both of Denver, CO, step-brother Jim (Susan) Runnion of Chicago, IL, mother-in-law Joyce Ruppel of Fort Collins, sister-in-law Julia Crawmer and nephew Travis Crawmer both of Fort Collins, CO and brother-in-law Michael Ruppel of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father and his daughter Carol Ann Erickson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street., Longmont, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in his name to the American Legion, Post 32, 315 S. Bowen St., Longmont, CO 80501.
