Steven Andrew Bloom, of Longmont, Colorado, died Saturday, March 3, 2007 near Echo Lake in Colorado. He was 53 years old.Steve was born on July 18, 1953 to Donald Bloom and Claudette Bouchard, on a visit to his father's family in Denver. He grew up in the Ashland, Massachusetts area and graduated from Amesbury High School. He also attended Monmouth College in Illinois.Mr. Bloom moved to Colorado as a young man and began working in the shipping department at the University of Colorado Bookstore. He worked at the Bookstore from 1979 until his retirement as shipping manager in 2003. His coworkers remember his hard work and dedication during peak times, as well as his attention to detail. He loved the peace and beauty of the outdoors. He had climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2001, and had climbed 31 of the Colorado's 14-ers. He was an avid cyclist and in 2004, along with his sister, Joyce, rode cross-country from San Francisco to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Reading and collecting Star Trek memorabilia were also among his passions.He is survived by his mother, Claudette Bouchard, of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts; father, Donald Bloom of Reno, Nevada; a brother, Jameson Bouchard, of Shrewsbury; three sisters, Joyce Marino, of Shrewsbury, Claudia Bloom of Denver, and Christine Cuthbert, of Hopkinton, Massachusetts; and two nephews, Michael and Kyle Cuthbert of Hopkinton. He is further survived by his girlfriend, Judi Schwandt of Loveland.A celebration of Steve's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services, 439 Coffman St., Longmont.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alpine Rescue Team, P.O.
