

Shirley Mae Brozovich of Longmont passed away April 17, 2015, at TRU Community Care Center following a lengthy illness. She was 92.She was born November 15, 1922 in Boulder, to Ralphus Lee Six and Sarah Esther Hood Six. During the depression the family moved often following the timber business to Caldwell, Ahsahka, and Boise, Idaho. At age 10, Shirley contracted polio but due to the diligence of her mother's care she not only walked again but danced into her late 80s. Her father died when she was age 14. Shirley and her mother moved to Salt Lake City to be with Shirley's sister Viola Thomas. She graduated from West High School in 1940. They moved back to Colorado and lived with another sister, Arletta Treber. Shirley met John through her nephew Rawleigh P . John first saw Shirley standing with her hands on her hips as he bicycled past. He said to Raleigh, I am going to marry her.On Nov. 23, 1941, she married John Joseph Brozovich in Henderson. They married at the Denver Poor Farm where they both worked. Shirley followed John to So. Carolina for his postings in 1942 before he went over seas for World War II. They met back in Colorado after the war. They enjoyed bowling, camping and fishing with their sons as well as participating in Boy Scouts. Shirley also enjoyed weaving, handcrafts, Scrabble, Pinochle and card games. She also did extensive genealogy research on her family as well as John's. She worked as a one girl office for a realtor for many years.Her husband preceded her in death in 1989. They had traveled together extensively in their Airstream trailer after John's retirement spending part of the year in Florida, Texas and Arizona. They especially liked Yuma, Arizona. They also enjoyed traveling to the reunions of his Former US Army Company B from the 750th Battalion. They began the reunions in their Arvada home. After John's death Shirley spent most of her time in Yuma, Arizona and made many dear friends. She was active in the Roadrunners Dance club. She returned to Longmont, Colorado full time in June 2010 To be closer to family.Mrs. Brozovich is survived by her sons, John L. Brozovich and wife Sharon of Longmont, Glen R. Brozovich and wife Lisa of Breckenridge; four grandchildren Roxanne (Bob) Lowry, Ken (Marcie) Brozovich, Cheryl Brozovich, and Alyson (Kyle) Williams; four great-grandchildren Andrew and Daniel Lowry, Alexis and Meghan Brozovich as well as numerous nieces and nephews that were very dear to her. A memorial service will be held 3:00pm, Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Hover Manor. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
