Saundra "Sandy" Marie Scott

Sandy was born on June 2, 1950, in Lancaster Kentucky to Daniel Webster and Hester (Warren) Overstreet. She was the second youngest of eight siblings. She attended the Mason School until the eighth grade. She attended Garrard County High School and began her freshman year the first year that the school was racially de-segregated. She pursued higher education at Eastern Kentucky University, where she completed her undergraduate degree in English and then completed her Master of Education degree. She was a member of the Ensemble, traveling with her fellow members to sing in numerous locations in and out of the state of Kentucky.

In Lexington, KY, Sandy met her husband of 48 years, Dean. They married in 1975 and shortly thereafter Dean’s job at IBM transferred the newlyweds to Colorado. They chose Longmont to settle down and start their family. They raised their three children in a home abundant in faith, love, laughter, and music. Picking up one of her husband’s favorite pastime activities, she attained her Amateur Radio license (N0ERT.)

She was a stay-at-home mom until all kids were well into their school years. She frequently volunteered in the schools. She heeded the call to resume her teaching profession in 1994. She taught at Rocky Mountain Christian Preschool for many years, followed by Gateway Montessori, and finally the O.U.R. Childcare Preschool. She remembered every child, every name, and loved hearing about the lives of her former students. Sandy was affiliated with Second Baptist Church in Boulder and then Rocky Mountain Christian Church in Niwot. She taught Sunday School for many years at Rocky.

She loved to sing, sew, write, and teach. She loved God and family above all and radiated joy through every situation life handed her. She dearly loved her granddaughters, and she cherished her time with each of them.

She is survived by her husband, Dean Jerome Scott Sr. of Longmont; sons Dean Jerome Scott Jr. of Longmont and John Alexander Scott of Greeley; daughter Valerie Jean Scott of Longmont; brother Burnace Overstreet (Nettie) of Peoria, AZ; sisters Francis Wright of Jeffersontown, KY, and Wilma Clay (Joe) of Lexington, KY; grandchildren Mya Mestas and Brooklyn Scott; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Daniel Webster Overstreet; her mother Hester (Warren) Overstreet; brothers Daniel Overstreet and James Overstreet; and sisters Anna Burdette and Marion Tucker.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

A Viewing will be held at 9:00AM Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Rocky Mountain Christian Church, followed by the Homegoing Service at 10:00AM. Please join the Scott family for a reception following the service. A graveside service will be held the same day at 2:00PM, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
