90th birthday with family and friends in early August. She was born August 9, 1932 to Ernest and
Velma (Wells) Anders on the family farm outside Popejoy, Iowa. Her early years were spent on the
farm helping with the milk cows and learning to be a tomboy from her older brother, Russ. She
attended Popejoy schools, Ellsworth Community College (Iowa Falls, IA), and Drake University in Des
Moines where she received her teaching degree in physical education.
In the summer of 1957, she joined some fellow teachers and spent the summer in Boulder, CO. She
worked at The Gourmet Diner that summer. She moved to Colorado permanently the following
summer, returning to work at The Gourmet where she met Guy Knebel. After a first date occasioned
by a bet on the World Series, they were married on August 14, 1965 and spent the rest of their lives
together until Guy passed away in August of 1992. They were blessed by three daughters Caroline,
Ann, and Amy. Rose deeply loved her family and the life that she and Guy built on their 5-acre
ranchette. She loved all sports and followed her daughters and grandchildren to many swimming,
basketball, track, baseball, softball, volleyball, and soccer events. She was always up for an adventure
whether it was visiting family in Iowa, planning a school carnival, traveling the country for
synchronized swimming meets, taking a cake decorating class, volunteering with Special Olympics,
Habitat for Humanity, Friday Lenten Fish Frys, and the church food bank, traveling to Juarez with her
church to build houses, or traveling to Paraguay and Italy.
Rose will be deeply missed for her giving spirit, sharp wit, and sense of humor. She was preceded in
death by her parents Ernest and Velma, her beloved husband Guy, her brother Russ and sister-in-law
Eleanor. She is survived by her daughters and their families, Caroline (Mark and Zach) Rehder,
Livingston, MT; Ann (Chad, Grace, and Tully) Campion, Iowa City, IA; Amy (Carl, Parker, and Page)
Sanchez, Longmont, CO; half brothers Merle (Marcy) Anders, Casscoe, AR; Bob (Deb) Anders-Bond,
Ames, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for family and friends in Colorado will be on Friday, November 4th at 6 PM at Howe
Mortuary's St. Vrain Room, 439 Coffman St., Longmont, CO, 80501. Funeral Services in Iowa will occur Saturday, November 19th at St. Joseph’s Church, Hills, IA at 10 AM, burial to follow.
