Ronald Wayne Horton was born November 22, 1931 at Hay Springs, NE. His parents were Curtis Wayne Horton and Ada Mae Reynolds Horton of Hay Springs and later of Chadron, NE; both of whom preceded him in death, as did 3 infant siblings and an older sister, Loretta, who died in 1981.Ronald attended schools in Chadron and worked for area farmers and ranchers until he served in the Army 1951-1953 at Okinawa during the Korean War.Ronald married Sharon Kay McNickle December 21, 1954 at Gordon, NE, later moving to Boulder, CO in 1956 where they raised their 3 children. Ronald was employed at the Rocky Flats atomic energy plant for more than 35 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, served as Secretary and President of the Colorado Sportsmen's Assoc., and was a member of the Boulder Rifle Club for many years. He became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Boulder in 1960 and was involved in many Bible Studies, the Work Krew, and Prospector's Groups.His wife, Sharon, preceded him in death on March 27, 2015. Survivors include children Garold (Gary) O. Horton, Laurel (Lori) M. Horton Freitas, and Glenda R. Horton Fowler; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sister Lenna Thompson, brothers Raymond Horton and Ervin Horton.A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday 3PM January 12, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church 1820 15th St, Boulder, CO 80302.
