Ron was born on November 16, 1929 to Walter Lee and Agnes Leonetta Hanson in Estelline, South Dakota. He graduated as the Valedictorian from Estelline High School. After serving in the marines, Ron returned to attend South Dakota State University and graduate with a degree in Hydraulic Engineering.
In 1959, he married Lynnette Minnaert and they moved to Phoenix, Arizona for a short time before settling in Berthoud where they would live for 21 years, and later moved to Longmont where they lived for 28 years. Ron worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for most of his career. After retiring from the bureau, Ron traveled overseas to Egypt, and India where he helped develop water systems. He also worked part time for the Denver Water Board.
Ron loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events and watching the Denver Broncos. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, working on cars and reading. Ron especially enjoyed beating everyone at ping-pong.
Ron is survived by his wife, Lynnette, of Longmont, son Greg (Alicia) Ball of Lubbock, Texas, daughters Sandy (Vernon) Lobato of Thornton, and Terry (Epi) Mendoza of Loveland, five grandchildren: Adrianna and Matthew Lobato, Emilee, Christian, and Eli Mendoza, and a brother Daryl Ball of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Preceding him in death are his parents and two sisters; Ardis Van Bemel and Deloris Dugdale.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 7, 2016 at the Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont. A reception will follow the services.
