Robert C. Torrez of Longmont died December 3, 2008 at Applewood Living Center. He was 82.Robert was born on October 8, 1926 in Amalya, New Mexico to Joe R. Torrez and Urseleta Archuleta Torrez. Raised in New Mexico, he joined his father at a young age in the logging industry. There they not only cut trees, but owned and operated a mill for rough lumber. Robert married Grace Bustamante on October 14, 1944 in Longmont.Robert moved to Longmont in 1958 from New Mexico. He provided contract labor for the lumberjack. He would later work the farms in the Longmont area, before joining Great Western Sugar. Finishing his career with the City of Longmont, he was with the forestry department until he was forced into retirement by a disability. Robert is preceded by his wife and a brother John Torrez.Surviving are his children Dennis Torrez and his wife Rose of Henderson, Nevada, Jim Torrez, Anthony Torrez, Paul Torrez and Louie Torrez and his wife Debbie all of Longmont; daughters Lorraine Morgan and her husband Mike, Isabel Dunn, Veronica Padilla and her husband Steve, Susan Whitsel, and Dora Torrez all of Longmont and Gloria Flores of Ft. Collins; brothers Fred Torrez and his wife Elciria of Longmont, Willie Torrez and his wife Devona of Lafayette, and Lloyd Torrez and his wife Marie of Thornton; sisters Rose Gonzales of Denver, Mary Bustamante of Longmont, Evelyn Estrada of Commerce City, and Eda Vela and her husband Victor of Longmont; 29 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, with Deacon officiating. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at ____at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with The Reverend Brian Morrow officiating.Interment will follow at the Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
