Robert Gerald “Bob” Glassner, Jr. passed away unexpectedly at his home in Longmont, CO. on June 10, 2020. He was 73 years old and feisty to the end.
Bob was born in a little town in southern Ohio to Robert Gerald “Rev” Glassner, Sr. and Elsie Mae (Surber) Glassner on September 14, 1946. He started school in Leesburg, OH. When a job took the family north to Berkey and then Sylvania, OH, he attended Sylvania High School. He later took classes at Stautzenberger College in order to enhance his skills as an architectural illustrator, a career that spanned most of his life.
He and his future bride, Patricia “Pat” Berry Glassner met in Toledo, OH when they both became involved with Sing Out Toledo/ Up with People. Over the years they bumped into each other in various occasions. Finally, after their third chance encounter, they knew it was meant to be and married on November 1, 1980. They were looking forward to celebrating their 40th anniversary this coming fall. In the spring of 1982 they moved to Minneapolis, MN where Bob created a successful art rendering business (A New Perspective) and Pat continued her career at IBM. Pat’s career took them to Connecticut and finally landed them in Colorado in 1991. Along the way their son, “Chip” Robert Gerald Glassner, III was born on September 19, 1986. Yep, five days after Bob turned 40. He always said that he didn’t have to celebrate any more birthdays; the focus could all be on Chip.
Bob (and Pat) were involved in so many ways in their community. Bob was a neighborhood leader in their many communities. He worked tirelessly for Mountain Shadows Montessori School and designed their multi-purpose building when Chip was a student there. He donated artwork for the Historic Westside Neighborhood Holiday Home Tours and Central Elementary School’s Red Thread Art Show and Bazaars. He designed and built sets for many productions at Silver Creek High School and Altona Middle School. This is just the tip of the iceberg of examples of his sharing, caring and generosity. Everyone who met him will miss his endless creativity, infectious laughter, his mischievous grin, his generous heart, his incredibly inquisitive mind and always-respectful soul.
Bob is survived by his wife Pat, son Chip, daughter Hollie, brother Larry Glassner (Lenka Glassner) of Clayton, CA, sister Joy Ginn (Bill Ginn) of West Milton, OH and brother David Glassner of Lewisburg, OH, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends from around the world.
Bob’s life will be celebrated at Howe Mortuary on Friday, June 26. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the service is by invitation only. Arrangements are being made to stream his celebration – please check this site for more information in the coming week. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to send a memorial, please send contributions to Up with People (upwithpeople.org) and/or the City of Longmont Museum (longmontcolorado.org).
