Richard Meyler Cox, Junior, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on December 27, 2020 in Longmont, Colorado to be forever with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born on November 7, 1949 in Chester, Great Britain to the late Richard and Audrey (Wickstrand) Cox.
Richard’s military parents moved from place to place every eighteen months until the family settled in Nebraska in 1960. Richard graduated from Bellevue High School in 1967. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. After graduation, his first assignment was Vandenberg AFB, California, where he became a “born again” Christian in 1972.
Richard was an officer for 20 years in the United States Air Force serving a long career and earning a full retirement. As so many military members do, he lived in a myriad of places including Colorado, California, Thailand and Australia. He began working with IBM microcomputers in 1980, and completed his Masters Degree in Computer Science in 1984. After his Air Force years, he started his second career with Northrup Grumman, continuing until he retired in June 2020. He specialized in computers and cyber-security. An avid photographer, he loved to take pictures of everything and everyone, serving as the photographer in countless weddings. Richard won prizes in many photo contests. Besides photography and computers, Richard’s hobbies also included writing. Richard wrote two full-length “speculative fiction” novels and published one.
Richard had three passions throughout life – faith, family, and friends, and he loved them all dearly. He was very active in his church, leading Bible studies and touching lives in the myriad of places he lived. Richard was a gifted teacher, often using a white board to help illustrate his teaching.
Richard is survived by a host of family that include his devoted wife, Nancy Ruth Cox; loving children, Kathleen (Glenn) Ruhl of Chandler, AZ; Cynthia (Gregg) Hall of Chandler, AZ; Robert (Ashley) Sine of McKinney, TX; Stephanie (Brett) Pasley of San Antonio, TX; beloved grandchildren: Gavin, Macy, Ethan, Landon, Paige, Emery, Cailyn, and Charlotte.
A small memorial service will be held at a later date.
