Patrick Joseph Sweeney, 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away at his home in Longmont on January 4, 2019. He was born on February 27, 1945 in Potsdam, NY to the late Paul Jeremiah and Amy Marie (Gauthier) Sweeney.
He leaves his dear wife of 42 years, Beverly Sweeney; his daughter, Megan Wiser; his son, Collin; his grandsons Logan and Conner Wiser; brothers John and Michael; a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and many very close friends.
Patrick grew up and attended schools in Potsdam, NY. He graduated from The State University of New York at Potsdam with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics.
Patrick worked for Kodak and Ithaca Gun Company in upstate NY before moving to Colorado to work for Alpine Designs in 1973. He became an avid and talented skier following his move to the foot of The Rocky Mountains. It was during this time in Boulder, Colorado where he met the love of his life, Beverly. They were married in Boulder, Colorado on June 5, 1976.
Following his employment with Alpine Designs, Patrick became a serial entrepreneur, launching start-ups in the capacity of Chief Financial Officer, Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer. Patrick’s career culminated as CFO of Meco Enterprises and Trans Alaska Holdings Company.
While his business ventures were prolific, the real center of Patrick’s life was family and friends. He spent his days jovially exchanging verbal barbs with his business partners. He regularly enjoyed family vacations to Colorado’s Grand Lake area and the beaches of Florida and beyond. He maintained close relationships with family and childhood friends in NY’s North Country throughout his life. And what he cherished most was spending time with family and friends during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am Thursday January 10, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 323 Collyer Street in Longmont. The Mass will be followed by a reception in Benedict Hall at St. John’s.
