Darrell P. “Mike” Felton died January 18, 2021 in Longmont, CO, at 82 years young. He was born October 5, 1938 in Ainsworth, NE to Jay and Hazel (Wright) Felton. He moved to Longmont in 1942 and graduated Longmont High School in 1957. He married Christina Gail Foley on March 17, 1963 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont, CO. Mike is survived by his wife, Gail; their daughters, Michelle (Kevin) Felton, Kelly (Jim) Tienken, and Christy (Kevin) Felton; his sister, Frances (Steve) Thide and brother, Larry Felton; his grandchildren, Carly (Sean) Riley and Emily, Hannah, Ross and Zane Tienken, and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by in-laws Gordon and Bonnie Foley, Glee Morris, many cousins, nephews, and nieces, and the Peterson family.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Lily.
Mike spent the majority of his life working on, selling or racing cars. He was a hard worker. He owned several used car lots and a junkyard that he ran with his wife. He loved car racing (especially late model dirt track), fishing with his grandkids and friends, and – before it closed – buying boxes of stuff to get that one item he wanted with his #6 paddle at Pacific Auction. He loved bargains and Gail’s green chili, and he believed fruit taken over someone else’s fence always tasted better. Though he officially retired years ago, he was always working on several projects at the same time.
Mike enjoyed traveling with Gail to family reunions, car races, and their home by the ocean. He was a loving and fun father who thoroughly enjoyed embarrassing his daughters and grandchildren by forcing them to skip with pinwheels through the grocery store. He had a fun (and a little bit ornery) side, loving to prank his family and lifelong friends. Mike always kept Gail on her toes. He unapologetically spoiled his grandchildren, and he taught all of his loved ones how to fix anything with duct tape and baling wire. He never took anything too seriously. Anyone who was lucky enough to meet Mike undoubtably has a great story to tell.
Always generous, Mike was known for quietly helping people in their time of need. He was an unforgettable man that will be missed by many.
