Michael Alexander Roach, a loving husband, son, brother, and friend, the best prankster around, a talented musician, and a truly rare individual, left the world suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday April 30th, 2022 at age 32.
He was born to William Roach III and Jill Schlemer on December 24, 1989 in Boulder, Colorado. Bill & Jill, and Michael’s brothers Shane and John got their first inkling of the troublemaker that was on the way as they waited many hours for Michael’s arrival on Christmas Eve.
Michael graduated from Longmont High School, during which time he met his longtime partner and wife, Kristen Whitehead. Michael and Kristen met during driver’s education and sparked a remarkable love story that endures and inspires. After high school Michael completed a Bachelor’s Degree at Colorado State University. His major was Liberal Arts, although he certainly could have double-majored in Japes, Capers, and Escapades. This can be confirmed by any member of Parmelee Hall or his roommates during those years- should one dare to ask, and there is a reason so many associate him with hijinks involving a gorilla suit.
After college, Michael let his versatile nature take hold and held a variety of jobs from a utilities technician for City of Lafayette, to financial advisor, and finally by growing a thriving business, Helios Landscape Design, with his wife Kristen as their Coordination Manager. Michael had a superhuman ability to talk to and befriend anyone from any walk of life and he was not only successful, but truly well-loved everywhere he went.
Michael’s greatest passion (besides extending an abundance of love to his family, friends, and more) was music. He possessed an incredible musical talent and an artist's soul. Michael shared his love for music with his father Bill and was known to dedicate great amounts of time mastering tricky pieces on the guitar. He fed his musical spirit by producing and playing music, both for his loved ones at home and for many others at events, weddings and more.
There are many people in the world who preach about living each day to the fullest although it is rare to find individuals who actually hold themselves to the ideal in everyday life. Michael Roach lived that ideal. He was an active and industrious man who could always be found working on himself and the world around him. He constantly worked on improving his home, including pouring concrete steps himself. A koi pond was planned, dug, and installed for his mother Jill. He put on karaoke in his own basement to make a four year olds night. He studied morning, noon, and night even in planes, cars, and hotels to complete certifications that were important to him. All moments were precious to him and they were treated as such.
Michael Roach’s heart was an infinite ocean. It was filled with leagues of ways to bring joy and laughter to anyone who met him, from close friend to stranger. The world can only endeavor to match the love and community that flowed from Michael, as easy as a wave.
Michael is survived by his wife, Kristen Whitehead, father Bill Roach, mother Jill Schlemer and step-father Scott Schlemer, as well as his brothers Shane and John Tyre and their beloved extended families and network of friends.
There will be a memorial service for Michael at Rocky Mountain Christian in Niwot on May 18th, 2022 at 10:30 am.
