Melvin Gene Frank, 84, of Longmont passed away peacefully on May 28, 2017 at Peaks Care Center.He was born August 21, 1932 in Loveland, Colorado to Phillip and Charlotte (Eisenach) Frank. Growing up Melvin attended school through the 8th grade and was then called upon to help out and work on the family farm.Melvin was baptized and confirmed at the Christ Congregational Church in Loveland.On December 9, 1952 Melvin was inducted into the United States Army. Following his basic training, he shipped out to Korea where he was stationed for a one year tour. Melvin received the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation. He was honorably discharged October 22, 1954.Melvin married Joyce Lockwood on June 24, 1962 at Christ Congregational Church in Loveland.He had a very long career as an operating engineer running heavy equipment for construction projects. Melvin began working for Armco Steel and installed many of the guard rails on Colorado's front range mountain roads. Following Armco he worked for Golden Companies, Tarco Construction where he worked on Denver International Airport, and finally for Crall and Bowes Construction.Melvin was a 45-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers #9. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.He enjoyed watching the Colorado Rockies, the Denver Broncos, trips to Blackhawk and working in his yard. He always enjoyed the company of his dogs.He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Phillip Frank, Sam Frank, Alan Sonny Frank and Daniel Jerry Frank and two sisters Olinda Bernhardt and Dorothy Schwindt.Melvin is survived by his wife Joyce, son Dave Frank (Michelle), daughter Jane Madrid (Randy), three grandchildren Kristina, Jessica and Cassandra Frank, great granddaughter Bryleigh Frank, three sisters Lilly Gieck, Ruth Dill (Ed) and Gladys Sterkel (Vernon) and his loving companion -his dog Casey.Melvin was a loving, devoted and generous husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed dearly.Graveside services will take place 10:30am Friday, June 2, 2017 at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
