Maxine Ida Haley, of Longmont, died Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Berthoud Living Center. She was 95 years old.Maxine was born in Longmont on December 16, 1911 to Charles and Amanda Sophie (Johnson) Johnson, both Swedish immigrants to the area. She grew up on a ranch east of Longmont, attending the Daily School near Rinn, until she moved to town with her family as a young teen. After graduating from Longmont High School in 1929, she earned a degree from the University of Colorado, where she met her future husband.On September 5, 1936, Maxine married James S. ?Slick? Haley in Longmont. The couple briefly made their home in Denver and Paonia, before returning to Longmont in 1940, when her husband, Dr. Haley, became associated with the Longmont Clinic.Mrs. Haley was an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Sunshine Club, Chapter CJ PEO, and several other community organizations. She served on the St. Vrain Valley School Board while her children were young. She volunteered countless hours at Longmont United Hospital as a ?Pink Lady? and was named Longmont Volunteer of the Year in 1978. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, tending her rose garden, and spending time with family and friends.Survivors include two sons, Charles Haley and his wife, Doris, and John Haley and his wife, Sue, all of Longmont; a daughter-in-law, Linda Haley of Lake Forest, California; as well as nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by two very special nieces, Sue Johnson Troudt of Longmont and Carla Johnson Hobbs of Cascade, Montana.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on January 13, 2002; a son, Jim Haley on May 28, 2001; and a brother, Carl Johnson, and a niece Marian Johnson Stratton.A memorial service will be held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Longmont, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2007. No public visitation is planned and private graveside services will be held at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
