Mary Etta was born on July 15, 1931, to Ora Franklin Bowron and Cora Belle Potts Bowron in Flint, Michigan. She spent her growing up years in Michigan. At a very early age she began taking piano lessons and as an adult became an accomplished piano and organ player. Music was a very important part of her life and this gave her great pleasure, especially playing for others.
Mary Etta was a very religious woman and during much of her working life, she was employed in the Adventist Health System in California and Colorado. When she moved to Boulder, Colorado, she started working at Boulder Memorial Hospital as an admission clerk and delighted in helping others. While working at the hospital she and Connie Buswell became close friends and they soon developed a very loving mother/daughter relationship. When Connie’s daughter, Elizabeth, was born, she instantly became Mary Etta’s granddaughter and they became close. Mary Etta soon became part of Connie’s large family and she enjoyed many family gatherings with them over the years. After she retired from Boulder Memorial Hospital, she met the love of her life, Richard Lee Taylor and they enjoyed several happy years together until his passing.
Mary Etta was a “people person” and her friends (as she described), became her chosen family. Another one of her favorite sayings was, “What I love most about life is who I share it with.’’ She loved her friends and they loved her. She was a generous and compassionate lady and always wanted to please others. She often said, “Keeping a positive attitude kept her mentally strong and helped her overcome adversity.”
She especially loved her doggie, Sugar, and enjoyed other peoples’ dogs as well. She had a fondness for cardinals and butterflies. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her piano until her eyesight failed and then had enjoyment from watching quality TV programs and spending time with her friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Richard Lee Taylor.
