Maria "Mary" Ellen Tafoya

Mary (Gonzales) Tafoya passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, February 9th, 2020. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Richard E. Tafoya Sr., her parents Alex and Alejandra Gonzales of Longmont, her mother in law Julia S. Tafoya, and Andrew J. Tafoya of Frederick, CO, numerous siblings, cousins and friends. She is survived by her brother Alfonse Gonzales (Catherine) of Erie, CO, her sister Lupe Blazon of Longmont, CO, her brother-in-law Gil Tafoya of Frederick, CO.

Mary was born August 15, 1934 in Louisville, CO. She married Richard E. Tafoya on September 24, 1955. They had 5 children; Maryellen Tafoya of Longmont, CO, Richard Tafoya Jr. of Longmont, CO, Chris J. Tafoya Sr. (Peggy) of Loveland, CO, Mark A. Tafoya Sr. (Lydia) of Hygiene, CO and Randy L. Tafoya (Yolanda) of Firestone, CO.

Mary was very active in the community. She was involved in the Longmont Senior Center, folklorio dancing for 14 years, and singing with the senior choir. She volunteered her time at Bingo,and she had many past time hobbies; she loved garage sales, camping, bingo, and gambling. Mary loved to sing with her brother Alfonse Gonzales.

Her careers included waitressing, movie theatre attendant, election judge, ambulance driver, Headstart bus driver, school bus assistant, board of directors for plan de Salud clinic and catechism teacher. She performed at Roosevelt Park each Cinco de Mayo. She loved singing and dancing and her favorite thing to do was spend time with her children and grandchildren. She had 32 grandkids, 54 great grandkids, and 10 great-great grandkids. Mary will be deeply missed.
