Les Carter of Erie, Colorado, died on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Life Care Center of Longmont. He was 87 years old.He was born Lloyd Lester Carter on October 16, 1921, in Erie, to the late Richard Lester and Stella Mae (Morrison) Carter. He attended Erie Schools and later attended electronics school in Denver.On December 11, 1943, Les married Betty Lou Gwodzik in Brighton. The couple made their home in Longmont in an apartment above Wooden's Radio and Television shop where he worked for 35 years. Upon retiring in 1972, the couple moved to Erie where they were custodians at Erie Elementary until 1983.He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Carter of Erie; his brother, Howard Carter and his wife, Jean, of Fort Collins; a nephew, Eric Carter and his wife, Holly and their children, Kyle and Kailee of Loveland, Colorado; and a niece, Sholee Carter-Kreps and her husband, Tevin, and their children, Joshua and Ryann of Gilbert, Arizona.Funeral services will be held at Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services, Longmont, at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2008, with interment to follow at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
