Linda (Walker) Smith was born and raised in Claremore, OK. She met her future husband, Warren Smith, while in school at the University of Oklahoma. After graduation, she and Warren settled in Heyworth, IL, where she worked as a teacher. They started their family there, but eventually found themselves moving many times for work. From Illinois they headed to Agoura, CA; then to Portage, MI; Boulder, CO; Comstock, MI; and Easton, PA. In 2004, they retired to a home in Longmont, CO, to be near their grandchildren, where they have lived for the past 20 years. Each of these places quickly became homes as Linda put her many talents to work: sewing home furnishings, planting gardens, canning produce and making jams and jellies, refinishing and reupholstering furniture, cooking amazing meals for family and friends, embroidering beautiful artwork and pillows, and even doing the electrical wiring (to code!) on a whole basement. She was an early adopter and enthusiast of personal computers, buying an Osborne Vixen in 1985. She enjoyed providing tech support when the internet came along, and her grandson cherishes an early memory of helping her build a home computer. We all benefited over the years from numerous lovely gifts made on her sewing and knitting machines. Never one to be idle, she had recently returned to knitting by hand and had finished a sweater that her granddaughter will treasure.
Linda is survived by her loving husband, Warren; her son, Brian Smith (Sonia) of Boulder, CO; her daughter Amy Smith (Mike Beauparland) of Portage, MI; two grandchildren, Adrien Smith of Boulder, CO, and Clara Smith of Fort Collins, CO; and her brother, Roger Dale Walker M.D. of Portland, OR.
Cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary of Longmont.
