Karen was born to Lorenzo S. and E. Elaine Cutsforth on January 14, 1964 in Rice Lake WI. She was only 3 lbs 2.5 ounces at birth, but proved to be a fighter from the start. She attended Grand Rapids schools, where at 16, she met her future husband, Stephen James Pratt. Karen and Steve were married on August 3, 1985.
Karen attended Itasca Community College, where she studied Business Administration. After graduation, she worked for the University of Minnesota, Minnesota Veterans Home and Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. While at the Veterans Home, she was inspired to pursue a career as a Pharmacist. She graduated from University of Colorado with a degree in Biochemistry leading to a Doctorate in Pharmacy from Regis University in 2017. Her love of learning was only equaled by her love of ice cream.
The depth of Karen’s relationships with her family and friends defined who she was as a person. She was a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews, known for her generous and giving heart. As a caring and loving sister, she was intertwined in her siblings’ lives. Friends enjoyed genuine and intentional affection. A devoted and contagious Christian, Karen lived out her faith and regularly prayed for co workers, professors, doctors, nurses, family and friends. She shined the light of Christ in her daily interactions with her warmth, optimism, infectious smile and hearty laugh. She brightened every room she walked in to. Her love extended to her many animals; cats, dogs and a seagull she raised from a chick.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Lorenzo (Renny) Cutsforth. She is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Steve; her mother Elaine Cutsforth; her siblings Connie (John) Hayes, Kathy (Brian) Metzer, and Curt (Carissa) Cutsforth; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Karen will be missed, but we celebrate the Life she now lives in her heavenly home!
