Karen Eileen Hakonson (Crowder) Love was born February 11, 1944 in Laramie, Wyoming to Russel and Ida Beth Crowder. She unexpectedly passed away on June 9, 2023 in Longmont, Colorado. She spent her formative years in Walden, Colorado and in her beloved high mountain valley North Park. Karen graduated from Jackson County High School in 1962 and married Donald Ray Hakonson on January 26, 1963. Following her marriage to Don, Karen obtained a teaching degree from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master’s Degree from University of Colorado, Boulder. Karen spent the majority of her career teaching 2nd Grade at Burlington Elementary School in Longmont, Colorado.
Karen and Don were married for 47 years. During this long union, they raised four children; Lisa Hakonson, Don’s daughter from his previous marriage, and three children from their marriage; Scott Hakonson (Shelly), Lynn Marquez Yarger (Robb) and Susan ‘Britt’ Hakonson and several grandchildren; Tia Hakonson (Kendra), Cody Hakonson, Karina Edmondson (Jordan), Michael Marquez, Heather Siminas (Rich,) Andrea Jones, and several great-grandchildren. Following Don’s death in 2010, Karen remarried Ned Love on March 12, 2017 whose children joined her family; Connie Warner (Bret), and Bill Love and Ned’s grandchildren Justin Warner and Ray Warner (Chelsea), and great grandchildren.
Karen was filled with faith, she enjoyed her church and bible study with her Christian Fellowship Group, The Women of the Word. Karen found her greatest enjoyment in being a mother, sister, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. During her early childhood, Karen loved to go camping and picnicking with her mom and dad, younger brother and sister. This love of the outdoors carried over to her later years. She loved to talk, laugh, watch football, fish, camp, play cards, go to Blackhawk, and picnic, she instilled many of these passions into her children and grandchildren. Karen loved to be with her family and created many fond memories with them. Her greatest joy was to be surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Ned Love, brother, Kent Crowder (Kay), sister, Kathy Robertson (Rick), her children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Karen was the light of her family and she was a caring, loving woman who will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life for Karen will be held Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Howe Mortuary Chapel, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado 80501.
